Strong year ahead at new Houlton development

Work on Rugby’s newest community, Houlton, is forging ahead for 2018 with a calendar of key milestones set for the Urban&Civic site.

Houlton welcomed its first residents before Christmas, and the new community continues to grow as more families are moving in their new homes. Housebuilding continues to progress with more homes on sale this year. Prospective home-buyers can now view show homes by developers Crest Nicholson and Davidsons Homes, as well as view Morris Homes’ development, The Beacons, from their on-site marketing suite.

The 1.5 mile link road, which will join Houlton and Rugby, is expected to be completed by next summer, with this major piece of infrastructure significantly cutting the journey time between the community and rail links, and supporting economic growth in the region.

St Gabriel’s CofE Academy is preparing to welcome its first pupils, having already received many applications for local families ahead of this September’s intake. With spaces available in every primary year group, parents can continue to apply for their child’s place at the exceptional new school throughout the year.

Plans are also on course for the neighbourhood’s playground, due to open in spring, and will provide a focal point for young families joining the community this year.

Following a hugely successful year of service, April will see Houlton’s eatery, The Tuning Fork, celebrate its first birthday at Houlton.

The site will continue to host a range of community events throughout the year, including Bright Brick’s LEGO™ activity, an Easter egg hunt, summer picnic, and a time capsule event to mark the birth of the primary school.

The new neighbourhood of Houlton will see 6,200 homes built, as well as three primary schools and a secondary school, an eight-GP health centre, extensive walkways, cycleways and green spaces as well as commercial space and new business. The development will take some 15 years to deliver.

Richard Coppell, Development Director for Urban&Civic said: “Last year was fantastic in terms of seeing the community of Houlton start to come to life, and we are excited about what 2018 has in store. Homes are available to buy now within the growing community, and we are looking forward to welcoming the families moving in this year.”
